The opening day of the S&DPL Winter League proves a dark one not only for Team Rileys and pool players/teams nationwide but also for right-minded people across the free world. Rileys begin their campaign against the universally disliked Silver Jubilee* and the absence of Steve Pardner and Nick Powell casts a long shadow**. A strangely subdued TR, who finished the previous season as Prem One runners-up, simply fail to hit their usual heights in what proves their worst ever result to date.
To their credit the fudge happy Jubilee finish well when handed their openings and refuse to give their lesser lights – those of big mouth and litle brain – a game in a bid to pile on the pressure. The evidence in terms of footage is below as Rileys slump to a 6-0 score-line in the first half. Dave Walker salvages some pride with a clincical dish in the second half while Andy Jones doubles Rileys’ tally by taking the last with a superb finish.
Rileys are blodied but unbowed and even in their darkest hour can take solace from the fact that Jubilee do boast a number of bell-ends in their ranks. And do not fear TR fans who clamour to this site from the furthest corners of the globe on a weekly basis – Rileys will have their vengeance, in this season or the next.
* this applies to only a certain percentage of Jubilee players.
** in Big Nick’s case the shadow is not that long
