Team Rileys 3 Sheps 9
The rack by rack analysis goes out of the window after Team Rileys turn in their weakest performance of the season against a team they have historically done well against. Tactically inept with potting strangely off-radar Rileys reach the turn around 4-2 down. Dave Walker claims a home rack for 2-1 after an unexpected in-off turns almost certain defeat into a Rileys victory. Matt Norbury earns the second against an out-of-sorts Dave Crossland after Sheps’ top stick pots both black and white in a rack he controlled throughout.
Rileys close to one behind as Crossy lays claim to being Rileys best performer of the night in rack seven – though Norbury again earns credit for sticking to the task before a composed finish. Andy Jones has a black for 4-4 in the next but after the ball fails to drop – with Rileys’ dodgy table taking some of the blame – the rest as they say is history.
A strangely subdued Rileys – lacking in energy, motivation and camaraderie – face relegation candidates Edgerton Arms next. And after slipping into the bottom half of the table a win will be crucial to restore the early season optimism and also avoid being drawn into a relegation dog-fight.
